About

Maria

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety or feeling sad or have experienced panic attacks  and need someone to talk to then counselling could help.

I am a 52 year old wife and mother, who has in the past sought counselling to help me through difficult times in my life.  Through the training I have undertaken I am now in the privileged position to offer a professional counselling service for anyone looking at making the sometimes difficult decision to seek help.

The service I offer is professional and confidential based on a person centered approach.

About

I am a professionally qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), working with adults and young people.

Person-centered therapy uses a non-judgemental approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. I act as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without moving the conversation in another direction. I am  there to encourage and support the client and to guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with the client’s process of self-discovery. Beginning therapy is a really positive step towards moving your life forward and making changes that will make a real difference.

Anyone who feels they need to be more self-confident, or feels they need the ability to build healthy interpersonal relationships and to trust their own decisions could benefit from person-centered therapy.Whatever we do, we do together, we will go at your pace. It can take time to feel safe enough to let someone in

This approach can also be helpful for those who suffer from grief, depression, anxiety, stress, abuse, or other mental health conditions.

The person-centered approach involves you the client doing most of the talking. I will not judge or try to interpret what you say, but may restate your words in an attempt to fully understand your thoughts and feelings.

When you hear your own words repeated back to you, you may then wish to clarify the meaning. This may happen several times until you decide that you have expressed exactly what and how you are thinking and feeling.

There may be moments of silence to allow your thoughts to sink in. This client-focused process helps your self-discovery and a provides a means toward healing and positivity.

I charge a discounted fee for the first session; this gives us a chance to meet and see if we both think I could be helpful to you. We can explore what you are hoping to gain from counselling and then discuss if you wish to take up future sessions.
